A new program hopes to attract new immigrants to northern and rural communities across Canada and has already helped 69 people be granted their Canadian permanent residency.

The pilot is expected to help fill positions in the community’s employment gaps. A Thunder Bay Community Economic Development Commission workforce development officer said they recommended 69 people, some with children and spouses, which brought the number closer to 80 for the program in the first year.
