Refugee Living in Airport Given Canadian Permanent Residency

Canada Immigration Express - Canadian Airport

After living in limbo at Malaysia’s Kuala Lumpur International Airport, Hassan Al Kontar finally found asylum in Canada. While living in the airport, the former refugee from Syria was always looking for his next cup of coffee. Strangers would at times recognize him and buy him a hot cup. Kontar said it is not the coffee, but what it represents. The smallest thing, like a cup of coffee, helped him feel normal and free.

He says his story is not only about the Syrian war but about a welcoming country called Canada and the residents of the country. Because of them, Kontar is now permanently safe.

Kontar worked as a salesman in the UAE when the war began in Syria, and the UAE refused to renew his resident visa. He knew going home was not an option. He stayed in the UAE illegally, but was caught in 2017 and sent to Malaysia.

Although receiving a three-month tourist visa, he was not eligible to live there permanently. He was out of options until he took to social media telling his story.

As Canadians learned of his plight, they came to his rescue, and he is now a permanent resident of Abbotsford, BC. Contact Canada Immigration Express and begin your immigration story!
