Afghan Immigrant Living in Canada Helps Refugees Relocate

Afghan Immigrant

An Afghan immigrant who fled his homeland in 1992 has started a personal aid effort to help provide necessities and clothes for refugees who are fleeing the Taliban and settling in Canada.

Wais Habibzai, now a Toronto property developer, is spending $50,000 to buy supplies. The Canadian immigration minister has praised Habibzai as a “shining example of Canadian compassion.” He said close to 1,000 refugees are receiving food and accommodations from the government as they get ready to settle in the country. Several of the refugees lack essentials, such as baby bottles, phones, and clean underclothes.

Many arrive with just the clothes on their back, so Habibzai has purchased them clothes from Walmart. Canada welcomes newcomers with open arms. The minister for Canadian immigration, refugees, and citizenship said welcoming the refugees wouldn’t have been able to happen without the generosity of Wais and many others like him. Canada stepped up at a time the refugees needed shelter from war and persecution. Now, individuals are stepping up and are being a shining example of compassion.
