Caregivers Get Permanent Residency Pathway for Canada

The Canadian government, under Trudeau, is launching two new immigration pilot programs in Canada. They will allow caregivers to immigrate to Canada with their families and they will be offered an opportunity to become permanent residents of the country. The new programs will enable caregivers to have greater flexibility to change quickly if needed. The current law prevents caregivers’ family members moving to Canada with them. That barrier will be removed, and their spouses and common-law partners will be offered open work permits. Dependent children will be offered study permits under the new program. Canadian Immigration Minister Ahmed Hussen said, “Caregivers provide care to families in Canada that need it, and it’s time for Canada to care for them in return.” He said Canada is providing the families the opportunity to bring all their family members and have access to permanent residency to demonstrate the true commitment Canada has to them. The applicants for permanent residency will be assessed according to the criteria required before they will be allowed to work in Canada. Once they receive a work permit and have two years of experience, they will have access to a direct inroad to become a permanent resident. These two programs will be replacing the Caring for People with High Medical Needs and Caring for Children programs.
